Blue Whale challenge: Scared to end life, writes student in exam on reaching 49th stage
An alarmed teacher checking the answer-sheet brought the matter to the notice of the school and the local administration, after which counselling of the child was being done.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Revenue, Praveen Prajapati of Khilchipur, where the incident took place, told IANS on Thursday that during the quarterly examination of Class 10 in the local Utkrisht Vidyalaya, a student wrote in his Sanskrit answer-sheet that he had reached the 49th stage of the Blue Whale game.
According to Prajapati, he further wrote that he was being pressured to undertake the final task of ending life. Besides, he was also being threatened that if he did not commit suicide, his parents would be killed, the officer said.
“The answer-sheet was being evaluated by teacher Hemlata Shringi. When she read the lines written by the student, she got alarmed. After that she informed the school and contacted us,” he said.
Prajapati said a group comprising teachers and some local people had been formed which was counselling the child to remove fear from his psyche.
Family members of the student said he had even uploaded the photograph of slitting his wrist and that at 49th stage, he was being asked to end his life.
This is really sad to read such articles on this 'blue whale challenge'. T he number of this blue whale cases are increasing
ReplyDeleteWhy cyber crime department dont find a solution to this cyberbullying as soon as possible?
ReplyDeleteyes Heena, its really sad to these cases. i feel really sad for those children who lose their life for this such silly stupid game.... This is a type of cyberbullying.
ReplyDeleteCyber bullying is bullying that takes place using electronic technology. Electronic technology includes devices and equipment such as cell phones, computers, and tablets as well as communication tools including social media sites, text messages, chat, and websites.
ReplyDeleteYes Nilofar, Children these days are more depressed and sad. The technology has detached them from the social life or may be dispute among parents make children more inclined towards mobile, internet etc. I guess most of the children who are victims of this blue whale challenge must have taken up the challenge for fun to distract them from depression but this rather pulled them towards the step of depression and sucide too!
ReplyDeleteI feel that today's generation is quite smart...but I dont understand why do they fall into something without realizing itz consequence
ReplyDeletewe should spread awareness about this " blue whale challenge".
ReplyDeleteNot just this blue whale challenge but there are so many different ways by which children get cyberbullyed. Use of social media, sharing personal contacts and details with unknown people on social media etc. Social Media are for adults (18+) but children now a days make fake profiles, faking their age. There should be some kind of security for chidren and also parents should vigilent towards their wards in this such cases.
ReplyDeleteRight they always want try something new....without thinking about anything....
ReplyDeleteyes shraddha actually its true. todays generation is smart, but some are oversmart even after repeated warning from parents and teacher.... they want to try something new... and because of that they land up in such situations
ReplyDeleteyes Heena i am absolutely convinced with your words. but what can we as tomorrow's teacher can do to make a difference in this situation
ReplyDeleteCell phones and computers themselves are not to blame for cyberbullying. Social media sites can be used for positive activities, like connecting kids with friends and family, helping students with school, and for entertainment. But these tools can also be used to hurt other people.
ReplyDeleteKids can now be bullied through emails, text messages, voice mail messages, through online messaging, on social networking sites and different websites.
ReplyDeleteThis should not happen...
Yes I agree with Shraddha and Uma also. But as tomorrow's teacher we need to be very vigilant towards the behaviour of children classroom and around. If we find any change in their behaviour we should inform child's parents, school authorities and proper counselling should be done. Depressed children need to be handle in different ways than normal ones. Yes children dont listen to parents and teachers most of the time coz in their adolscence they are also victims of peer presure which make them do wrong steps. Counselling at home and school should be doen time to time
ReplyDeletefriends chech this:
ReplyDeletethere are laws against cyberbullying in India
Offences of bullying, stalking, terrorism, breach of confidentiality, etc. committed in cyberspace are like similar offences in the real world and are punishable. The Information Technology Act, 2000 (IT Act) was enacted to deal with e-commerce and electronic records, and also to punish e-commerce offences. Offences such as intimidation, insult, annoying, harassment, defamation, etc. in cyber space continued to be punishable only under the IPC till the 2008 amendment to the IT Act.
I guess there should be some kind of department to not allow such kind of games to come into cyber...May b that would make a difference
ReplyDeleteyes may be
Deleteyes right it is up to us that how we are using this gadgets....
ReplyDeleteto rescue victims of blue whale challenge many people are coming up with various solutions.
ReplyDeleteFortis Healthcare as generated toll free help line number for those who are victims or any one who knows are victims of blue whale game. Here the psychologist provide them with counselling and ways to cope up with depression.
Nilofar ...laws are made bt it isn't making any difference...kids are falling into it and parents are suffering
ReplyDeleteSection 66A in the amended IT Act deals with these crimes. Sending any message (through a computer or a communication device) that is grossly offensive or has menacing character; any communication which he/she knows to be false, but for the purpose of causing insult, annoyance and criminal intimidation comes under this section. This crime, under the current IT/Cyber/Criminal laws in India is punishable up to three years with a fine.
ReplyDeleteBonding between parents and kids very much important.....
ReplyDeleteyes absolutely
DeleteIn India there are laws but the investigation process comsumes so much time that the victim has to suffer from trauma and it difficult for the child and his family to cope up with it
ReplyDeleteIf kids cyber bullied they have to talk about this to their parents....
ReplyDeleteEven after so much of development...we are unable to save lives...though there are many laws and many more things...we cant reach to a better conclusion for saving kids frm these stuffs
ReplyDeleteyes heena that the point... these cases should be dealt in fast track court cases
ReplyDeleteYa and once they found out about the game... They should have blocked it....
DeleteShould have tried some alternative way to stop other kids from falling into this trap
decades back when there were no mobiles in the hands of children, very few social websites and contact was made through phone calls and mails the rate of cyber bullying was less!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely
DeleteBut in those times in most of the cases atleast one of the parent or grand parent were at home to take care of their kids ...... And keep a track on them ...
DeleteBut now the scenario has changed .....
So providing a cell phone has become necessary....
But those phones need not be a android one... It could be a regular one too
yes Heena now a days parents are very busy with their work....
ReplyDeleteYes fastrack cases can help a situation...but looking at today's scenario...I really doubt about it
ReplyDeletecell phones become very important for parent because they have to go out for job...n all so they have to be in touch with their kids....
ReplyDeleteYes you are right... Uma..
DeleteBut parents should find time atleast to keep a track of how children are using the technology.... Check the apps being used etc.....
yes there so many ways to keep eye on kids....or stop them to missuse this technology...
DeleteIt affects student's career.
ReplyDeleteKids who are cyberbulled are more likely to use of alcohol, and drugs ,skip school and have lower self esteem.
ReplyDeleteBut this is not necessary...
DeleteWith proper guidance these kids will be able to overcome their problems....
There's an example of a girl from New York
NATALIE FARZANEH
She was cyber bullied when she was 15 in the year 2008 and now she have become a Motivational speaker and Mentor encouraging other victims to stand up to their tormentors
Parents should try too maintain a good relationship with their children so that kids may feel free to share all their worries and secrets with their parents
ReplyDeleteIt's not only the responsibility of the parents but also as a teacher we should do awareness among the children's..
DeleteVery correct.
DeleteKids who are cyberbulled are more likely to use of alcohol and drugs and also skip school and have lower self esteem.
ReplyDeleteYes ,it's very important to care their children from such a big problems.
ReplyDeleteA friendly relation with the kids.... Can solve all these issues to some extend.......
DeleteKids should also b made aware of this issues.... They should be taught what to belive and what to ignore
hmmm.....right femin
Deletesome times peer pressure become a reasons for cyber bullying....
ReplyDeleteIt was also another issue with wich Natalie dealt with
DeleteShe was bullied at school by her peers ....
This might have been a reason for her to get into the cyber world . She might have found it as alternative way to get socialized without realizing that she would get into more trouble.
there are so many ways to stop this....
ReplyDeleteYes there are so many ways to stop this. For example we should educate ourselves, setup privacy, raise awareness,
ReplyDeleteLog out online accounts etc
or not to allow kids to use facebook or any other sites before 18
Delete
DeleteWill the kids agree to that ??? Stoping them will not help much . They will find out an alternative way to use social media. Like fake accounts or going to a cyber etc.. especially teenagers ....
So proper guidance, support , counseling will only help.
Don’t participate. Don’t “like” or share posts that are bullying someone. Although you may feel pressure to join in if a lot of other people are, you can make your own choice not to contribute to the situation.
ReplyDeleteYes I agree with you uma
ReplyDeleteYes there are many ways....
ReplyDeleteNot just parents even SCHOOL's should try to educate students about it.
The ways to solve or deal with such issues.
Students should be made aware of the problem faced by cyberbuyllied victims. Which will help them to take precaution.
yes yes correct
DeleteTell your parents or another trusted adult. Believe it or not, they can help you. You don’t have to hide this situation
ReplyDeleteExactly but all this things should be taught either by parents or by school....
DeleteTo start with just a days seminar would be enough.
yes like awareness programs

ReplyDeleteBlock the bully from social media sites so he or she cannot see or comment on your child’s page. Also, block the bully’s phone number on your child’s phone and his or her email address in your child’s email account.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteSharing the experience of victims would also help.
ReplyDeleteWork with your child to document all incidents, including printing emails, taking screen shots of text messages and writing down all incidents in a notebook. This documentation will help when going to the school or authorities on the bullying.
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteCyberbullying is not just a kids issue a recent survey showed that 75% of American adults have witnessed online harassment.
With 40% seeing the brunt of that cyberbullying
Yes ,it may be with other person also.but children face more...
Delete
DeleteYa.... maybe because they are not matured enough....
They are not aware of many things and can be easily feared.
Lack the support from elders. They fear getting scold or misunderstood by their parents and peers etc
may be children think that this is just a game and not harmful....or the tasks are just for fun
ReplyDeleteInitially they might have taught that but as the task moves on.... They do become afraid . This fear of loosing their family or being judged by them is being used by the developers or people behind it.
ReplyDeleteWhich result into depression and trying to commit sucide.
It's really a saddening think.
